When we first meet Adrian "Bolt" Hall, he is an angry young man with a passion for music. It is his dream to take his band, Lightning, to the top. Adrian's childhood was anything but idyllic. His mother left the home when he was ten. His father quickly found a replacement and this woman made Adrian's life even more miserable. Robyn was abusive and also a drug addict.  After Adrian's father, Allen Hall, succumbed to cancer, his stepmother's treatment of him became even worse. She ends up throwing Adrian out and he moves in with his Uncle. This is how he came to arrive at Riverview High school, a fictional school located in Jacksonville, Florida which is where he meets Kat, Dagger, Buzzy, and Ringo. The quartet has already been jamming together and when Adrian joins the band, everything comes together for them.

Adrian is not a likeable character. His anger and inability to love unconditionally (based on his childhood trauma) are things he must face, and learn to deal with in constructive, not destructive, ways. Over the course of three books in the series, the reader will see this character mature and become a better person. However, he will still be the ''bad boy'' of the band.

Physical Appearance

Adrian has spiked, platinum blond hair, deep blue eyes, thick lips. He's known for his sneer and also his great smile. He has a slim build but is cut well. He's five feet ten although taller with his combat boots on. He dresses in the punk style of ripped jeans and t-shirts, and then moves into a rocker look. He doesn't like needles so no tattoos for him.

Adrian met Melody Stewart during their senior year of high school, and although they went through two painful separations, they never stopped loving one another. They were married on September 18, 1987. They renewed their vows in December of 1998.
