Johnnie Vega
Guitarist of Lush. Caesar Blue was his best friend.
Description
Character
Johnnie Vega is the bad boy of Lush. A victim of ridicule and verbal abuse as a child, Johnnie has grown up not feeling good about himself. This is what led him to alcohol and drugs at an early age. He has suffered a couple of overdoses, including one that nearly took his life. Caesar was the one who found him, and that incident led Caesar to get clean. He pleaded for Johnnie to do the same. Johnnie has been in and out of rehab for years, but had never been able to stay clean.
Despite being the drummer of one of the most popular rock bands ever, Johnnie is self-deprecating and doesn't feel good about himself. He is often grouchy and not easy to get along with. It was speculated by certain people in the press that he might have had a hand in Caesar's death. And after losing Caesar, Johnnie drifted away from the two other surviving band members, Rhett and Kurt.
Caesar willed to Johnnie his two houses, and his money. Caesar was afraid that Johnnie might someday lose it all, and he wanted to look out for his friend. After Caesar's death, Johnnie spiraled out of control and his parents ended up taking control of his money. So, at the beginning of Eternally Wild, he is essentially living off of Caesar's gift to him.
Physical Appearance
Johnnie has model good looks. High cheekbones, thick lips, blue grey eyes. A gorgeous smile. His hair is brown and will curl if he lets it grow out, but he keeps it closely cropped and spikes it up with gel. For all his bad habits, he's in good shape for an addict over 40 and actually was into yoga during his several attempts at sobriety. His arms are well defined due to all his drumming.
